“Prove To Me Scientifically There Is A God.”

This past Sunday we finished a four week message series called “Why?” We had asked everyone in our church to take a 3×5 card and write down their answer to the following question: “If you could ask God any question and you knew he’d have to give you an answer, what would you ask him?”

Out of the stacks and stacks of great questions, the topics our teaching team chose to address were:

• “Why does God allow me to experience so much crap in my life?”

• “I find it absolutely ridiculous to think that God would send an amazingly good person to hell. Will he do that?”

• “How Will I Know I’ll be Chosen?”

I saved the toughest question for last,

• “I Trust Science Way More Than Your Bible. Prove To Me Scientifically There Is A God.”

Let me know how you think I did. What would you have said?

John says:

Brian,

How did you do? Really nice job considering you are attempting the impossible. Don’t bother next time. The audience you are attempting to convince can’t be swayed. First and foremost, as believers, they are our intellectual superiors. If you don’t believe that, just ask (or listen) to them. They will open your mind to this fact while accusing you of an Ad Hominem attack for daring to be honest and point this out. If you attempt to placate them, you’ll be accused of dishonesty, so you might as well be honest.

Brian, just because the bible tells you that you’re a fool if you don’t believe means nothing. The bible tells me so, so it must be true. This is circular reasoning and any good atheist will point this out to you. Your well thought out, from-the-heart attempt to explain that the Earth is a perfect design and sanctuary for human existence (God’s extraordinary creation) is simply an Argument from Incredulity. Again, any atheist worth his salt will drive this point home for you.

Just remember Brian, the late Steve Jay Gould, paleontologist , Harvard Professor, premier evolutionist and atheistic/agnostic (perhaps Marxist) would tell you that the odds of the human species evolving exactly the way they did again under any circumstance is many, many times longer than the odds of winning Powerball. In fact, Mr. Gould argued that it is possible for life to adapt towards simplification (like parasites) as opposed to complexity (like man 2009). You see Brian, we are just a complete accident and any attempt to convince an atheist otherwise is a complete waste of your time. Please just lead by example as this is the only hope any person has of influencing another – words alone will never convince an atheist…it simply won’t happen,

Most atheists know more about the bible then believers, sometimes considerably more. It doesn’t matter, they’ve simply rejected it. This is their right. Getting back to my first observation; these people are smarter than us, so just let them blaze the secular trail. Some of us will eventually catch up, but those of us who are deluded and actually believe a rather compelling New Testament fairytale (like myself) will stay permanently “behind”, and that’s okay.

John.
